Simply Sunday -- Psalm 100

Psalm 100
New King James Version (NKJV)

A Song of Praise for the Lord’s Faithfulness to His People
A Psalm of Thanksgiving

Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

A moment's reflection:
As a young girl, I was required to memorize these verses in Sunday School.  I haven't attempted to recite them in decades.  And yet today, for some reason, they resonated in my heart as I gazed upon the most glorious day in this sodden region of Oregon in a long time.

Did these words speak to me because it was a beautiful day?  Because the sun shone high in a blue sky?  Because we were able to work in the dirt and plant flowers and vegetables?  Because we were celebrating a dear friend's retirement?

No, most likely it was because the Lord has been good to our family in times of distress, financial hardship and sorrow.  His mercy has covered us more times than I can count.  Lastly, I'm sure it was because our mom taught us that His truth would last forever and reach to all who came into our family until the end of time.

  1. Like you, I memorized these verses as a child. I may not have remembered the words of this Psalm, but I have learned to 'make a joyful noise' (shout)! Thanks for the memory.

    1. Barbie, you're so busy spreading God's Word that I thank Him for crossing our paths! You bring much joy to many, but especially I want to say you do that for me. When I find you here, I smile!

  3. I love this Psalm. I probably memorized it myself. It all kind of came back to me this year as my kids went through their first year of AWANA. My 2nd had to memorize this. Later, for his extra credit, he had to recite 5 verses from Psalms that praised God. This popped into his head right away. Praying that, like you, this verse will come to mind again long after his AWANA years are over.

    Blessings and Happy Mother's Day.

    1. Sara, I love this Psalm too! How I enjoyed reading that your 2nd memorized it this year in AWANA. :) Isn't it amazing how God's journey weaves in and out with our children taking us back to our own childhood and also forcing us to look ahead and plant hopes and dreams for them? You bring such joy to my days!

      Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

  4. I was given a little Daily Light book by 2 old ladies who prayed for my salvation. I cherish this book as it has helped me to memorize Scripture just by reading small portions of text each day attuned to the same daily theme. Scripture memorizing has helped me re: writing and witnessing to the goodness of God. I love the Psalm you have chosen:

    "We are His people and the sheep of His pasture." Love this verse! Thank you for sharing your reflections... precious!

    1. Wendy, I enjoyed reading the story of the Daily Light Book and your 2 old ladies. I'm so glad my choice of Psalm 100 brought you to leave comments, because it sent me to check out your cards. Lovely! I've followed your site and will hopefully be linking up soon!

  5. I had written quite a bit, and somehow lost it. AAKK!! Anyhow, I "met" you. I was born in Portland, raised mostly in Tacoma, then shifted to a small town in Columbia Gorge area on the WN side--Klickitat. I love most of that area, but the Lord moved me here to Omaha a number of years ago.

    ANYHOW, re: the Psalm. God has laid them on me many times to give me focus and encouragement that He is BIGGER than our economy, our bills, our life-challenges. That's all we can count on. Thank you for sharing so straightforwardly.
