As I tossed and turned a few nights ago, I was hit with one of those AHA! moments. We all get them. Creative juices flow. The mind buzzes. And there it is -- an unexpected idea that turns topsy turvy any plans you thought might be well fixed and in place.
The idea that came to me has to do with the memoir I'm writing. I've posted a few draft installments here, and the more I thought about how I wanted to approach my story it seemed I needed something more personal between the protagonist and me.
We all know that to try to talk to your "enemy" often enrages them further and causes more harm than good.
My plan is to begin writing these letters from early childhood on, but writing them as an adult looking back. It is my hope to incorporate them into my memoir in some way.
Not Just A Name will continue on but with its primary focus on sharing my faith journey with others. Memoir-related posts will be found in the new blog, Letters to Mama.
I hope you'll join me on this new phase of my writing journey.
pure brilliance. love that idea!
ReplyDeleteNikki, your words "pure brilliance" gave me such affirmation! Thank you, friend.
DeleteThanks for this sensitive post!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing something similar for my novel. Using my journal entries. May we both succeed. I don't know about you, but my memoir is unpleasant to write because of dredging up memories.
Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteInteresting that we should both approach our work similarly. I too find it difficult to look into the past and view the memories of my family life as it wasn't a pleasant time. Here's to a successful ending for us both!
BTW, I very much enjoyed Virginia Lloyd's post on your blog, which I'm now following.
